Ralf Waldo Emerson, born on May 25, 1803 in Boston, Massachusetts, is known to be the leader of the Transcendentalist movement of the 19th century. He was one of the most influential writes in the United States. Emerson was a poet, but also a philosopher, lecturer and, a preacher just like his father. Emerson was a Harvard student at the age of fourteen. He pushed American’s to start being themselves instead of imitating Europeans and how the world works on the opposite side of the ocean. Emerson was known for self-reliance and that things will only be achieved if one constantly works on it. His ideas and style still grabs people’s attention today because of his strong belief in individualism and the trust he had in himself rather than others.
